Teacher of Physics

The role of a teacher is to provide others with guidance and support to achieve their goals. A teacher should create a safe environment for students, where they feel valued, challenged, and encouraged. I want to help students become confident and independent learners who are eager to ask questions and explore new ideas.

I first worked with young people when I was still in school, volunteering with Beavers (Scouts). I later became a trampoline coach at my local gymnastics club, where I both competed and supported younger athletes for over a year. These early experiences developed my interest in education and working with young people. From there, I went on to achieve a BSc in Physics from the University of Leeds, and after that, I completed a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at the University of Chester.

During my PGCE, I taught in a school that I found quite challenging, where building strong pupil relationships was particularly important. I had to work hard to earn the students’ trust and understand their individual needs. Achieving these goals was incredibly rewarding, as it allowed me to deliver lessons that truly engaged them and helped them get the most out of their learning. I believe strong pupil relationships are at the heart of great teaching and essential to creating a positive learning environment. Developing these skills has been a vital part of my growth as a teacher.

Science has always fascinated me because it is so clearly present in the world around us. It’s not just about theory – science helps us understand our environment, make informed decisions, and approach problems with logic and creativity. My goal as a science teacher is to make this subject feel real and relevant, empowering students with the tools to think critically about the world.

I have a strong passion for the outdoors and enjoy activities like hiking, camping, and wild swimming in my free time. I’m especially drawn to water sports and have previously worked as an instructor, teaching kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. I also take great pleasure in scuba diving, which has allowed me to explore a variety of underwater habitats and observe marine life up close. Beyond that, I enjoy hobbies like carving, crocheting, and martial arts.

I’m excited to be part of the Avenor team — a place where I can continue to grow alongside my colleagues, while offering students an environment in which they can discover their strengths and develop in a meaningful way.
