Cristina Willows

Deputy Executive Director
Director of People & Operations

For many of us, the career path to “here” is not a straight line.

Graduating in 1999 with a degree in Statistics from the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics, Statistics, and Computer Science at ASE Bucharest, I started my career in the Romanian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, eventually becoming the Deputy General Director for European Integration and International Relations.

Following a number of years in government organisations, as well as in the field of hospitality in the United States, I moved into the corporate sector, working in communications and public affairs for UPC Romania. I also had the opportunity to apply these skills to my role as PR and Marketing Manager for TREND Consult.

Never imagining that my career path would lead towards the education sector, I joined Avenor College as Director of Admissions & Communications in 2012. For the next six years, I was fortunate to be part of an exciting phase in the history of the school.

Between 2018 and 2022, I spent almost 5 years in Brussels, Belgium where I was the Admissions & Marketing Manager at BEPS International School.  Those years have provided me with a wonderful opportunity to extend my experience still further in the wider world of education, beyond the Avenor horizons.

In August 2022, I was honoured and happy to return to Avenor College as Deputy Executive Director. This new role at Avenor College is multifaceted, focusing on both strategic leadership and operational management.

In August 2025, I took on the newly created role of Director of People & Operations, which builds on responsibilities I was already leading and now complements my work as Deputy Executive Director. My focus is on supporting our people and operations so that the school environment is safe, caring, and coherent.

I lead our People Strategy—covering recruitment, onboarding, performance, growth, and wellbeing—while also overseeing campus operations and services so that systems remain reliable and aligned with learning. I am responsible for safeguarding and health & safety, ensuring coherence across departments, and building strong connections with our community, including leading the Parents Committee. In essence, my role is to turn good intentions into consistent practices that allow people to thrive.

Notwithstanding these formal responsibilities, connecting with people each day is what I most love to do. Starting with the students, continuing with the parents, and concluding with fellow team members, I am deeply committed to making people around me feel empowered – to be learners, to make the right choice for their children, and to be successful in their professional roles.

The path to “here”, for me at least, has not been straight. But, today, I feel fortunate to find myself in a place where I truly feel at home; where my skills and knowledge are valued; and where this community of students, parents, and colleagues brings joy each day.

I enjoy my  life beyond work by running, listening to music, spending time with friends and my son, and exploring the world as often as I can.

Careers – as life itself – rarely go in a straight line. But the pattern that has been woven in and around Avenor since 2012 has made my life so much more beautiful and I am better because of it.
