Ezgi Polat
Teacher of Mathematics

Mathematics has always been a source of wonder for me. Even now, I remain fascinated by the beauty that lies beneath the surface of the visible world—a beauty that mathematics helps us uncover. I still feel a thrill when I learn something new, and even more so when I have the opportunity to share it with others. There is a special kind of joy in seeing a student’s eyes light up when they finally grasp the “why” behind a concept, especially after beginning with the classic question: “When will we ever use this?”. For me, those are some of the most powerful moments in teaching.
This passion led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science at Bilkent University in 2013, where I was awarded a full scholarship. During my studies, I took part in volunteer teaching projects, working with students from diverse backgrounds.
These experiences ignited my love for education and inspired me to pursue a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. During this time, I successfully earned an IB Teaching Certificate and completed my teaching qualification (pedagogical formation) in 2021. My teaching journey has been rich and varied. I have taught the IB Diploma Programme, the Turkish MoNE curriculum, and the British AQA curriculum in a range of schools across Turkey.
These experiences have broadened my perspective and allowed me to develop a flexible, student centered approach to teaching. I strive to create a classroom environment where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to explore the elegance of mathematics.
Outside the classroom, I lead an active lifestyle. I enjoy sports and often go on nature walks with my dog. Music also holds a special place in my life; I find peace and creative expression in playing the flute, an instrument I have cherished since childhood. These activities help me maintain a healthy balance and bring renewed energy into my teaching.
I’m happy to be part of the Avenor community. Coming from a culture that shares many similarities with Romania, I look forward to contributing to a vibrant, multicultural learning environment. My goal is to support students in reaching their full potential, whether by excelling in international mathematics competitions or developing a lifelong appreciation for the subject. I aim to cultivate a classroom atmosphere that is joyful, intellectually engaging, and empowering, where students feel confident to ask questions, take risks, and grow as learners.
