Dr. Ahmet SALGÜR

Teacher of Chemistry

As teachers we all have a passion, and this passion is often our favourite part of what we teach our students. As a child, I was passionate about science, especially nature. I was trying to understand the events through making observations and asking questions. I love animals (as an owner of 4 cats) and all living creatures. When I was in high school, I also discovered that I love to explain what I learnt about science to the people around me. Consequently, these two passions, science and teaching, have become my lifestyle as a science (chemistry) teacher since 1994.

As teachers, we have vital importance on the life of the students especially in today’s world. In this manner, the role of teacher is not only teaching the subject in a classroom environment anymore. We spend so much time with the students and are involved in counselling students, mentoring students, and teaching them how to use and apply knowledge in their lives. Moreover, parents have become more interested in their child’s educational achievements than in the past.  They discuss more frequently about child’s development with the teachers. These out of class relations with the students and parents made me more interested about social relations, interactions and communications. This is the reason why I needed to complete my masters’ degree in psychology and educational science and my PhD degree in Sociology.

I graduated from the Faculty of Science Education (Chemistry Teaching) at Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1994. I had my masters’ degree in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at University of Bucharest and completed my Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Assistance Faculty of the same university. I have had many years of experience as an international teacher, mentor, academician, supervisor, director and manager in different international schools from different countries since 1994.

I have done a lot of scientific research focused on education, communication, internationalism and multiculturalism. I took part in some educational European Union Projects. Furthermore, I have participated in many scientific international conferences. I enjoy reading in my free time. Basketball has been my other passion from childhood. I played for many years and still play when I have time.

I look forward to teaching in Avenor to share my enthusiasm and experience with my students and working with new colleagues from all over the world.
