Jennifer Taylor
Head of Science

I haven’t always been a teacher, but from the first time I stepped into the classroom I knew that education would become a passion of mine. I believe that a high quality education is a right for all, no matter what a person’s background, needs, or academic ability, and it is a privilege to be able to guide and support students to take control of their education and to develop a life-long love for learning. I am delighted to have the opportunity to enthuse students about Science, a subject that I am passionate about, and to help them to better understand and evaluate the world around them. Supporting students to develop critical thinking and key transferable skills is essential to mastering any subject.
In 2004 I graduated from Manchester University with a BSc (hons) in Neuroscience. After later deciding to move into teaching, I carried out my PGCE teacher training at Bristol University, then later completed a Masters Degree in Education at The University of Gloucestershire.
Following my bachelors degree I spent some time working in the scientific field. I began my first career by working in Research and Development for a medical biotechnology company who focussed on the diagnostics of autoimmune diseases. I later worked in research in the laboratories of Bristol University, studying novel compounds for the treatment of lung cancer. After moving into education, however, I began my second career as a teacher in a large state school in the U.K. where I continued to teach for 7 years, taking over the roles of Head of Biology and Deputy Head of Science. Prior to joining Avenor, I was the Head of Science at an International School in Yangon, Myanmar, overseeing the growth and development of the Science department.
I am an avid traveler and one of my favorite things to do is to experience the culture, customs and cuisines of different countries. I also love to be outdoors and am equally content when hiking, mountaineering, cycling, scuba diving or skiing. In the past I have volunteered with environmental education charities and outdoor pursuits clubs, and I hope to get involved with as much as possible in Romania as well.
I am delighted to be working at Avenor and to have the chance to become a part of the community here. I am looking forward to each year being filled with experiences and growth for the students and staff.
