Olivia Robinson

Teacher of Drama and English

I graduated with First Class Honours in 1996, and started my teaching career in primary schools. I then worked as Head of English in prestigious private schools in Kenya and Mexico. I have a Master’s Degree from Brunel University and a PhD in Sociology from University College London.

I became Deputy Headteacher of a large London secondary school in 2002, where I developed the high school curriculum, delivered whole-school staff training, managed heads of subject departments, developed inclusion policies to manage student behavior, and introduced procedures for collecting and analysing data about student progress, so that all students could benefit from personalised learning.

I came to Bucharest in 2015 to set up my own centre for English learners. I continue to run this with my business partner, have taught over 280 private students (who benefit from courses as diverse as conversation, business English, accountancy qualifications, TOEFL, and all levels of Cambridge diploma), and have established partnerships with the Swedish Embassy, the National Archive of Romania, and several companies in Bucharest.

I have enjoyed teaching every single year group at Avenor, and particularly my current classes of iGCSE and A-level Theatre Studies and English. Most rewarding of all, however, is my role as lead Teacher Developer, in which I lead the process of improving the quality of teaching at Avenor by supporting teachers to ensure the excellent progress of all the students in their classes.

In my spare time, I enjoy amateur dramatics, have conducted choirs, am a green belt at Tae Kwon Do, and am currently approaching agents in the hope of having a murder mystery novel published.
