High School

Avenor International High School follows the Cambridge curriculum and is authorised to organise IGCSE and A level exams. Like the entire school, the high school has double Romanian and British accreditation, and the academic programmes are complemented by learning outside of the classroom opportunities, internships, career counseling and university guidance.

Curriculum

IGCSE – International General Certificate of Secondary Education

The IGCSE level covers the first two years of high school – Grades 9 and 10 in the Romanian system / years 10 and 11 of KS4 in the British system. IGCSE is a two-year course with 8 official examinations held at the end of the cycle*.

Advanced AS/A2

The Advanced Level Examination has two parts: AS and A2. The Advanced level covers the final two years of high school – Grades 11 and 12 in the Romanian system/ Years 12 and 13 of KS5 in the British system – and prepares students for University entrance.

Students will study 3 or 4 subjects at AS and 3 subjects at A2 level. The choice of subjects studied should be closely linked to future university study plans.

The completed papers are sent to Cambridge where they are marked by specialist examiners. The results are announced officially in mid-August each year.

Personal Development

At Avenor College, we believe that learning happens not only in a traditional setup, but also through experiences taking place outside traditional school framework. In such a rapidly evolving landscape, the ability to anticipate and prepare for the skills of the future is essential to any educational institution. We approach this aspect through our activities and programs dedicated to personal development: weekly classes with our school psychologists, annual awards given to students, out-of-class learning programs, but also a program created by school psychologists for parents in the community.

Events

Our high school students are involved in events, not only as participants, but often as organizers. In recent years, the events they have organised have brought together hundreds of community participants and often served a charitable purpose. In this way, students develop important skills in project management, which will help them later, regardless of the careers they choose.
