High School

Avenor International High School follows the British curriculum and is authorized to organize IGCSE and A level exams. Like the entire school, the high school has double Romanian and British accreditation, and the academic programmes are complemented by learning outside of the classroom opportunities, internships, career counseling and university guidance.

Curriculum

IGCSE – International General Certificate of Secondary Education

The IGCSE level covers the first two years of high school – Grades 9 and 10 in the Romanian system / years 10 and 11 of KS4 in the British system. IGCSE is a two-year course with 8 official examinations held at the end of the cycle*.

Advanced AS/A2

The Advanced Level Examination has two parts: AS and A2. The Advanced level covers the final two years of high school – Grades 11 and 12 in the Romanian system/ Years 12 and 13 of KS5 in the British system – and prepares students for University entrance.

Students will study 3 or 4 subjects at AS and 3 subjects at A2 level. The choice of subjects studied should be closely linked to future university study plans. Elevii susțin examene* la finalul fiecăruia dintre cei doi ani și doar dacă promovează examenele AS își pot continua studiile la nivelul A2.

*The IGCSE and A Level exams are scheduled during the May/June and/or October/November sessions each year.

The completed papers are sent to Cambridge where they are marked by specialist examiners. The results are announced officially in mid-August each year.

Career Guidance Programme at Avenor

At Avenor, we support our high school students in discovering their passions and building their pathway to the future through a well-structured Career Guidance Programme. The quality of this programme is confirmed by the Career Mark International Award, an international recognition that certifies excellence in careers education offered to our students.

In Grades 9 and 10, students develop leadership skills, take part in projects and entrepreneurial challenges, and begin to explore possible career pathways through a psychometric testing process. This helps them identify their strengths and interests, supporting them in choosing A Level subjects and making informed career decisions.

In Grades 11 and 12, the focus shifts to preparing personal portfolios, exploring universities and courses, and becoming familiar with the requirements and stages of the university application process. Students benefit from the support of our Career Counselling Team and the Unifrog online platform, which helps them identify the most suitable study programmes. Our counsellors, with extensive experience in guiding applications to universities worldwide, support our students all the way through to graduation.

Internships are an essential part of the Career Guidance Programme, offering real-world experiences in diverse fields – from medicine, arts and law to finance, STEM or civic engagement.

Our goal is for every Avenor graduate to be prepared not only for university admission, but also for life, becoming truly Future Ready.
